Arack was the first to shout. "Just because you're afraid, that doesn't mean we are, tough guy! We handled those enemies that you couldn’t!"

I winced. Socially, she was truly apt. Sometimes, though, she let her mouth run away unchecked. I could practically feel the popular opinion turning against us. I spoke up quickly. "We do not plan to throw our lives away. We are, however, going to dare it, see if we can push our way through. We haven't come this far to give up without a fight."

I'd give him that much. He didn't care about hurting our feelings and was completely unafraid. The wide, tough ratling laughed in our faces. "You think you are the first to try? You are nowhere near as strong as the best of us. Ah, well. Perhaps our people will be able to retrieve something useful from your remains afterwards. Just don't try to lure any of our people with you on that fool's errand." Then he stalked away angrily, crowd parting before him.
